Introduction to Consistency
Through years of goal setting, I have found common threads that have enabled success or beget failure. By distilling a big goal down to repeatable tasks, you can achieve great things. Become healthier, buy homes, start families. Show up everyday (or every-other day) and watch as the steady beat of your progress outpaces everyone around you.
In the context of this Workbook, Consistency does not necessarily mean every day. Consistency simply means sustained effort over a period of time.
Over the years, I have attempted many goals whose success could be predicted through the lens of Consistency. In my school years, lack of Consistency led to poor grades. In my time as a "dating coach", I encouraged men to set goals that were within their control - say "hello" to 10 people today. With buying my first rental property, the impact of regularly scheduled savings brought a home into a physical manifestation in a matter of years. Currently, with exercise, I am pursuing a goal of 200 Workouts in 2024. By the end of this year, I expect this 200-in-24
goal to bring me the ability to do 10 unassisted pull-ups.
While many goals start as "I want to do 10 pull-ups" or "I want to have a whole bitcoin" or "I want an awesome girlfriend" - these types of big undertakings can be overwhelming, once the initial excitement wears off. There is a long way between today and 10 pull-ups. Your brain will lose focus. You will find reasons to quit. Defining a Consistency Goal will allow you to progress, without having to be constantly obsessed by the final outcome.
If your goal is so big that you will not taste success until next December, you are less likely to navigate the dips and roadblocks that will appear.
This workbook will explain the components of Consistency Goals and walk through the steps necessary for you to set goals, grow over time, and achieve whatever it is that you wish for.
Step by step, day by day, you will see your progress and momentum build - and watch your achievements come to life in real time.
Showing up consistently creates the space for success to occur.
TODO
This method will teach you how to achieve your goals by breaking them down into their most basic form and executing over time.
Structure of This Workbook
Throughout this workbook I will refer to three goals, to give context and which can be adapted to various areas of your life:
- Do 10 Pull-ups
- Save 0.1 Bitcoin
- Get a Cool Girlfriend
These goals are intended to reflect the the pillars of a good life: Health, Wealth, and Happiness. I encourage you to fill in the blanks for your own life, using these examples to explore how different aspects of goal setting fit with different types of goals.
~~...will walk you through the logistics and terminolgy/general understanding of the system, then the Workbook will take you step by step. Case studies... etc etc.
If you need inspiration, free to jump ahead to the Case Studies but I recommend at least browsing the Logisitics before moving on to do the Workbook.~~
Show Up and Do The WORK
Success is Driven By Consistency
The Primary Goal will be driven by consistency - Show up 200 times, Save $X every week, Approach 10 people every day - These are all based on You Consistently Showing Up To Do The Work. Once you are at the gym, push yourself as hard as you can (what is the point of showing up if you are not going to try your best?) and the results will follow.
